WINTER EXHIBITION
Sharon Bishoff + Etienne de Villiers + Werner Ungerer

Winter is a season of quiet reflection. The landscape becomes still, the light softer, and we find ourselves looking a little more carefully at the world around us.
We are privileged to showcase new work by 3 extemely talented artists who’s work share that spirit of looking more deeply.

Although their work is very different, Werner Ungerer, Sharon Bischoff and Etienne de Villiers each invite us to look beyond the obvious.

Werner’s exhibition, I Walk on Gilded Splinters, is a deeply personal exploration of grief, memory and resilience. Through painstaking calligraphy, embroidery, drawing and ink, he confronts difficult subjects with extraordinary honesty, reminding us that while art may not always provide answers, it can offer understanding, compassion and connection.
Art is very subjective and how we experience it will differ from person to person – if I had to choose two or 3 words to describe Werner’s work they would be: meticulous and meditational.

Sharon Bischoff’s work encourages us to question first impressions. Her portraits and mixed-media works explore the unseen parts of people and situations, reminding us that what is happening beneath the surface is often far more complex than what we initially perceive. My few words: masterful execution, compelling presence.

Etienne de Villiers  tells South African stories through paint. His Karoo landscapes speak of memory, place and the traces of lives lived, inviting us to imagine the stories that exist beyond the horizon and within the landscape itself.
His work takes me back on all the lovely journeys I’ve made through our beautiful lanscape. My few words: nostalgic and rooted in our land.

Together, these artists remind us that art asks us not simply to look, but to see—to slow down, to reflect, and to discover something that may otherwise have remained hidden.
