Antoinette du Plessis

Antoinette du Plessis grew up in Pretoria, South Africa. She has lived in Cape Town for over 20 years. Her deep love for the South African landscape – especially the Karoo, Drakensberg, and Cederberg mountains – has remained a constant source of inspiration.

Before fully dedicating herself to ceramics, Antoinette worked in textile design. Her creative focus turned to clay, combining her love for drawing, nature, and walking in wild landscapes with the tactile and expressive qualities of ceramics.

She uses earthenware clay and develops her own surfaces, experimenting with oxides, slips, and commercial glazes. This process results in richly textured, layered, and often unexpected surfaces. Most of her work is hand-built vessels, sculptural forms, and decorative platters.

Antoinette has participated in many exhibitions, including Re-Imagining Clay in South Africa in the 21st Century (Ebony Curated, 2020).
